Parable of the Sheep and Goat

In the Bible, Jesus uses parables to explain his teachings to his followers. One of the parables he uses is in Matthew 25, verses 31-46.

The parable takes place when Jesus comes down to Earth for judgement. It explains that he will separate the people one from the other, similar to how a shepherd divides his sheep and goats (Matt. 25:32-33). On the right will be his "sheep", and on the left will be "goats". As He addresses the sheep, He explains to them how they have shown humility to Him, so they will receive an "inheritance" (i.e eternal life in Heaven). Now this confuses them, and they explain that they have never helped Jesus directly. Jesus explains to them that anyone who aided his brothers or sisters, aided him (Matt 25:34-40). However, to the goats on the left, Jesus tells them to depart from Him due to their wickedness, and that they showed cruelty and hostility towards Him. Now the goats ask a similar question, saying that they never refused Him help. Jesus refutes this statement, saying that since they did not assist someone who was struggling, then they did not assist him, so they will be subject to Hell. (Matt 25:41-46).

Now at first glance this parable might seem confusing, but looking into the story deeper reveals its true meaning. Jesus explains to the sheep that they were kind, therefore honoring and glorifying his name. In the act of helping others and showing humility, we are serving the Lord.
